Bunions

Otherwise known as Hallux Valgus, is a deviation of the great toe towards the lesser toes, usually accompanied by a bony lump forming on the toe joint. It’s often associated with osteoarthritis of the great toe and can result in pain, changes in gait (the way we walk) and difficulty finding footwear.

While there is known to be a hereditary factor in developing bunions, foot posture, weight and poor footwear choices over years can also contribute.

While surgery is the only way to fully correct a bunion, we can assist you with any associated problems, such as corns and callus or pain where the toes are rubbing or pressing together due to the great toe deviation. We are also well placed to advise you on the best footwear choices for your comfort and mobility and can offer custom-made orthotics to maximise comfort when walking.
