Thickened Nails

Toenails can grow thicker than normal for several reasons – age is the most common factor, but a fungal infection or trauma can also affect how the nails grow.

An accident like dropping something on your toe may have damaged the nail or simply a very long walk in hiking boots could have caused micro-trauma and over time, caused the nail to thicken.

Thickened nails may be asymptomatic but at times pressure from the nail may increase and cause pain under or around the nail. They can become very difficult to cut and require specialist treatment to relieve the problem. We can help you maintain your nails and advise on the best way to manage them at home.
